Cats is the Second Worst Thing That Ever Happened to New York
I finally watched Jersey Girl last night, all set to hate Kevin Smith for selling out. And you know what? I really loved it! Ben Affleck is not a great actor, but he pulls something out for Kevin that he reserves from every other performance, and George Carlin made me cry at the end. I even liked Jennifer Lopez in her brief appearance. Hurray for her for sobbing "I wanna be a coked out whore!" in reference to Affleck's explanation of why all the girls at the VMAs are so skinny - now that's comedy. Any film that works in a seven year-old performing a Sweeney Todd number ("God That's Good") is okay in my book. And of course, the commentary, which could have been subtitled "How Bennifer Ruined Our Movie", with Kevin Smith and Ben Affleck cracking jokes, name-calling all the critics, and poking fun at each other, is a joy as always.
I'm still reeling from watching Shrek 2. Not because of the movie itself (better than the first, but Shrek's still just not my thing) but because of the music. How in hell they got Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds...what? I was stoked to hear Frou Frou covering "I Need a Hero" during the credits. Very British soundtrack on this cartoon - weird but cool.
I think tomorrow I will go to a yoga class, finally, at my old stomping grounds. I haven't been to Full Circle since they've moved into the new building, and that was ages ago. It's a hatha class, which is a good intro, but I don't know the instructor. Saturday morning maybe I'll head in for the Ashtanga class with Lewis, who is the best instructor I think I've ever had. I just really like him. You should all come with me.
