Random Thoughts

I'm getting tired of seeing that same (not-same) post when I pull this up to link to everywhere else I need to go (I cannot function without my blog-links.)

I really love the tabbouleh and stuffed grape leaves at Cafe Annie's in downtown Orlando.

Adrienne's back from her big Europe trip and now I really want to go to Amsterdam. (I don't smoke weed. Just to clear that up. I just want to go to Amsterdam.)

Sleuth is this Sunday, and thank goodness for David's "Buy your tickets" reminder earlier this week. I'm looking forward to that.

Sidenote: I don't know why, but every time I start to really look forward to something, I hear Sarah French's declaration, "Oh, Clifton, I'm so excited!" from the refrigerator giveaway sequence of 1940's Radio Hour. Don't ask me.

The knitting is still ongoing...that's why you don't get many updates here anymore...it's all knitting news, all the time.

We watched Pride and Prejudice, A History of Violence, and Good Night and Good Luck.

Pride and Prejudice: As good as any version of this I've seen...I enjoyed Keira as Elizabeth, and the cast was very strong. I loved that they kept it talky...we had to back it up occasionally to listen to more rapidfire bits of dialogue a second time.

A History of Violence: Actors overcome a stale script to make a film more than watchable. Best, most disturbing version of William Hurt I've ever seen. I would sit through the entire film again just to get to his bit at the end. Not sure why Maria Bello didn't deserve an Oscar nomination (or an Oscar).

Good Night and Good Luck: Best Picture? Really? Best Director? Ya think? Best Screenplay? Seriously? Sorry, the performances were top-notch and the photography was really compelling, but I agree with Travis' declaration when the credits rolled: "I feel like I just watched a documentary, and yet I would have rather watched a documentary." It was a good movie, but I disagree with all the hoopla. Half the movie is archival footage, and another quarter is dialogue that would have had to be taken directly from transcripts. (I want to look into that - was that exactly what Murrow said on-air, or did Clooney and pal paraphrase?) Anyway, by the time you take away all the archive/transcript stuff, there were only about 15 pages of written dialogue. Compelling work, but half-film, half-documentary. Still, it's different.

Eric and Billy will be starring in You Can't Take It With You at Icehouse. I look forward to seeing that.

I really want the closing over with on this place so we can just move in and acquire furniture. Buying a house is such a tremendous pain in the ass.

The End.

Oh.... I loved Good Night and Good Luck. And I was all ready to vote for Best Director -- honestly, it was a toss-up between Ang Lee and Clooney -- cinematography aside. They were both brave pictures, I think -- possibly Clooney's more so because everyone knew the gay cowboy movie would be a hit. Controversial, perhaps, but a hit nonetheless!

RE: Tickets: Glad to be of service, Ma'am.

Hey, it's just gonna be 3 of us: me, Michael & Steve. Is there any place out near you that has a fabulous brunch that we could all meet at (that would be worth the long-way round)?

Otherwise we'll see you at the theater.
