Hey, Whatever Works...
I effing LOVE the story I am about to tell you.
My audition tonight for Blood Brothers and Two By Two (which went reasonably well, thank you) at Bay Street started at 7:30. I had casually mentioned it to Travis in a "Hey, wanna come hold my hand and support me" sort of way, completely 100% expecting him to call and wish me luck from the comfort of his own home. But he actually did plan to come out in support (and, while there, ended up harangued by several different individuals about auditioning - one can never have too many attractive chorus boys). So he calls at 7:15 for directions...from Groveland. Sure, yeah, see you when it's over. He walked in the door at pretty much the moment Brooks started the music for my audition. Nice, well played.
But see, he actually made good time - the lateness was due to his being pulled over on the way to the theatre. Going 74. In a 55. That's 19 over - talking your way out of 19 over is NOT easy. I mean, I have breasts, and I've failed at wiggling my way out of that sort of violation. He hoped and prayed the officer would ask him where he was going in such a hurry.
And he got his wish. And the reply, you ask?
"My wife has an audition at 7:30 and I promised I'd be there, sir."
(What?! I didn't know we were allowed to play the fake spouse card other than in Bad Couple! Hell!!)
I think the convincing part was when the cop asked what the audition was for, and Travis replied "You know, I couldn't tell you...I know it's a musical, out in Eustis...that's her thing, I just support and applaud." Sounds pretty freaking husband-y to me.
Cop shakes his hand, tells him to slow down and wish me luck.
Awesome.
(And no, he didn't get talked into an audition, but he may be coming out tomorrow night too, and despite my promise to not attempt to corral him into auditioning, I'll probably continue to give it the old college try. It'll fail, but I wouldn't be a good Bay Streeter if I didn't at least make the effort.)
So my read wasn't outright terrible, maybe even pretty decent, and I'm sincerely hoping that more people show up tomorrow so we can muster up a full and talented cast. I'd say Rick Breese and Ashley Richards may be pretty well locked in (ah, I love them), but there's about four other great roles up for grabs - come on out, people. (Talented men only please - I don't want any competition, thanks.)
The new (well, maybe new - it's been awhile since I haunted Bay Street) restaurant over by the theatre is so great! We stopped in afterward for what was meant to be a quick coffee and cake and turned into a few hours of chatting about a little bit of everything...and discovered the chess board and the comfy chairs as we were leaving, so we'll be hitting that place again. (They make a pretty mean cappucino, too!)
And speaking of family...my mom will be here in less than two weeks! I'm so excited!!!

Maybe the cop wasn't into breasts, if you knowhutImean...? Travis IS a very comely lad, after all. I wouldn't ticket him if I were a cop. (Though imagining him and myself in a cop uniform conjures up many other possibilities in my imagination.)
Got yer Tony tape. Email me at davidroz@yahoo.com and we'll arrange a "drop".
