We Will Rock You!
Last night was the Dolly Awards, and it is my extreme pleasure to announce that The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas and Noises Off totally dominated! I honestly didn't know what to expect...but Whorehouse and Noises won best Musical and Play, and most of the actors nominated took home awards.
Hosted by Jake Vest, the show ran about five hours, but it was what one might call a "hoot" - Jake is probably one of the funniest people in Central Florida. There was a large Whorehouse contingent present, and the loudest cheers at nomination time always came with that show's nominees - and every winner got a standing ovation. The Dogettes led off with the wins, and they hilariously accepted their award fully in character, also running up to support Melvin Thorpe (Glen picked up the award for Supporting Actor in a Musical). My "boyfriend" from Picasso at the Lapin Agile, Michael Scholl, presented me with the award for Supporting Actress in a Musical, making it that much more special, and I thanked Ken for not caring that I was the wrong race, age, and size for the role. Steph picked up two awards for Noises Off and Picasso, and Kevin, Elizabeth, and Josh (who came, and it was good to see him) all won for Noises. And Ashley got his for Whorehouse, as did Megan and Rollin. There were a few robberies, in my opinion, but for the most part I was thrilled with the results, and I think everyone else was too. There wouldn't have been many bad choices - the nominees all deserved their nominations - but of course I'm always going to lean towards the people who were part of my team!
And a blast this morning was had with a plunger swordfight at the villa.
My happy is that I was a part of such quality productions this year, and that there are quality productions to BE a part of.
