Nope, Can't Do It

Forget it. Here I go. I'll sum up. Not moving out of the country, not threatening to hurt anyone in retaliation, but these results blow. Our president kinda sucks, I'm sorry, and so does Congress. Wasn't crazy about Kerry either - my vote for him was really just a "no" for Bush. I want a good candidate four years from now, and I better get one.

I don't understand how everyone individually seems to be getting more liberal and the country seems to be getting more conservative. I don't understand how Republicans, and radically conservative ones at that, are taking over Congress, Presidencies, Governorships... More importantly, I don't get how people don't want to be independent-minded! Example: understand that if you are armed with the information of your doctor's malpractice history, you don't need someone to pull his license for you. Do your homework and decide for YOURSELF whether it's a doctor you want to see. It's a DOCTOR, not a barber - make sure he or she is acceptable to you and has the credentials and history that satisfies you. I wouldn't care if my GP had 27 malpractice claims, she's a great doctor and a likable person, and when I have a cough, I want to be able to see her. And I guess it doesn't matter if a young girl has to ask daddy's permission for an abortion (hey, maybe he's abusive and he'll beat her half to death, that'd be great), since there won't be any OB/GYNs left in Florida to perform them by the time we finish passing laws to ensure the ones we have flee the state and no new graduates would touch us with a pole.

And this is the home of theme parks and South Beach - how did we end up with a Senator who voted AGAINST a hate crime bill??? Complain about the crappy education system in Florida, then send lifetime education advocate Betty Castor packing and ship another attorney off to D.C.

If we homeschool the kids, put them in wholesome afterschool activities to round them out, teach them that giant rodents roam the aisles of Walmart and McDonalds, make sure they watch the news and discuss daily, go for family jogs and yoga clinics, and encourage independence in thought and action, perhaps we have a chance at maintaing our souls, at least in the Plourde household. Beyond that, this country and state have both gotten themselves into a giant bureaucratic sinkhole and we're going to have to figure a way to claw out.

Okay, I'm climbing off my box now. And yes it's annoying to read someone else's views when you don't agree or don't care, but hey, this is my blog and really, it's for me.

Oh yeah. Umm...today I'm happy...because...well, because people showed up and voted. Even though it turned out badly as far as I'm concerned, at least there were long lines and people waited in them to be heard. Thank you, America, at least for that.

I don't really consider myself a political animal but this election has me so depressed. I just wish I could see how people view these events 100 years from now, with hindsight and the context of history in place. Why do I think we just let the barbarians in....{huge, overly dramatic sigh}?

(For the record, I did not censor "greyjoy"; my blog just decided to double-post the original comment for some reason.)

Obviously, everybody is not getting more liberal. We all live in echo chambers to some degree, surrounded by people that more or less think like us. It never occurs to anyone, liberal or conservative, that they are not the norm. People in NYC claim they don't know a single individual who voted for Bush, yet he got 40% of the state and probably won more than a few precincts in the corners of the state far away from Manhatten.
