Vote Dammit

I know the lines are long, but they're longer at the unemployment office. And vote yes on the minimum wage increase.

I had a perfectly relaxing day off, thank you. Some Burnout, some TiVo, some lunch with friends that was lovely. (Larry and John are well - Larry had four of his works produced in New York recently, and had a very good reception for them, which is very exciting. Quite a good writer, that one, and such a character.) Of course, I had lunch downtown and the deputy of my office walked in as we were walking out. Perhaps not aware I had the day off, he was probably wondering what I was doing at lunch at 1:30, in jeans.

I attempted to get to rehearsal last night, even though I wasn't called, but it was cancelled. I like going to rehearsal when I'm not called - that's when you get the best chance to observe the director and your fellow actors to see what they respond to, what risks they take and what direction they are going in. It's hard to absorb those details when you're taking the direction in yourself. So instead I chatted with Eric a bit and headed off to Super Target, also known to me as the Greatest Place On Earth. I am happy today because I found some silk and fur pillows and a fur blanket to give my backseat a pimped-out lounge feel. Please ride in my car to make it worth the expense.

Good karma in the direction of Eric's grandmother and family, please!!

Okay, I'm bandwagonning again, but I think this one's kinda dumb - if someone gives you a list of 72 personality traits, some of them are bound to stick. But here's what my birth month says about me, with my opinions bracketed.

MAY: Stubborn and hard-hearted. [Stubborn yes, but I protest hard-hearted - I'm M&Mish: hard candy shell, soft interior - I come off with a lot of attitude, but need something and you'll see a different person.] Strong-willed and highly motivated. Sharp thoughts. Easily angered. Attracts others and loves attention. Deep feelings. [Okay, agreed to most of that.] Beautiful physically and mentally. [No doubt!!] Firm Standpoint. Needs no motivation. Easily consoled. Systematic (left brain). Loves to dream. Strong clairvoyance. Understanding. [Okay, mostly.] Sickness usually in the ear and neck. [Creepy, but they left out migraines - ha!] Good imagination. Good physical. [Arguable.] Weak breathing. [No joke there. Who gets adult onset asthma, for God's sake? And I guess most of this stubborn and independent stuff makes sense, since I refused the inhaler.] Loves literature and the arts. Loves traveling. [Word.] Dislike being at home. Restless. [Hey J, any argument with that?] Not having many children. [Hm...don't like that. I want three, but J always reacts strongly to that number. Maybe someone's trying to tell me that J's gonna win with two.] Hardworking. High spirited. Spendthrift. [Help - I can never remember if spendthrift means spend a lot or spend a little.]

To that end - I love that Oscar called from Neiman Marcus's shoe department to let me know that there's a presale starting this week and he'd be happy to set some things aside that I might like. Good Lord. If ever there was a call meant to stir a priorities shift....
