Nature or Nurture?

There was a very interesting piece on NPR this morning about the origins of rock and roll, and the differences between black rock and white rock. (We all agree that saying that Elvis invented rock and roll is like saying Eminem invented rap, right?) Anyway, one guy has a theory that your very race is what makes you play music the way you do, and the other said that it was based on environment and how/where you're brought up. I say we test the theory by taking a white boy from Compton and a black guy from Cambridge and see how they stack up. The bit that sticks with me, though, is the theory that it's the sixteenth note - the idea that there is an inherent and indelible difference between a white sixteenth and a black sixteenth. Really fascinating stuff.

Today I'm happy because Ben R., Shawn H., and Brandon W. are the funniest things I've seen on stage in a long time. They're going to end up stealing their scenes handily.

I have all of seven bits of dialogue - I REALLY need to get off book now. It's just pitiful.

Oh, and I got the second dress, and it's just amazing - I think this is the one. There, that's over with now. I feel like I just have eleven months of twiddling my thumbs ahead of me. Guess it's better than eleven months of freak outs and meeting caterers and tasting cakes and visiting with florists and looking at photographer portfolios and...
