Fabulous
If someone I know is fabulous, it renders me fabulous by proxy. I have many fabulous people around me all the time, and I'm so glad for it! Toxic Audio won the Drama Desk Award for Best Unique Theatrical Experience. Luerne's Josh was offered a role in Mama Mia on Broadway (happy face!) but was forced to turn it down (sad face). For those who don't know, Josh is this amazingly talented and wonderful person - you know that friend-of-a-friend who always remembers you and greets you with a grin and a hug like you've known each other for years? It's a blissful feeling to believe you made an impression on someone.
We visited Jelly Rolls last night after rehearsal. Sitting there with Kevin and his truly fascinating sister Antoinette (lived in Japan for 11 years, speaks the most proper English you've ever heard an American speak), I realized that Jelly Rolls is the sort of fun and kooky place that really deserves its own sketch on Chappelle's Show.
Small downer - a role I'm dying for comes up for auditions in July or so, and I just found out someone lovely and amazing also wants the role. I wish she was a bad person so I'd be excited about attempting to destroy her in auditions, but she's pretty, mind-bogglingly talented, and sweet. I just have to hope she finds something better and chooses to do that instead. It's one thing to show up at auditions and be surprised by someone incredible being there, but to anticipate it for months ahead of time, well, that's a tough one.
The "I'm Reading" section is on hiatus today - I started After by Francine Prose (amazing, read Blue Angel right now) and discovered that it's her first novel for young adults. Not a bad read, but not really my cup of tea anymore.
